Social Worker


Job Title: Social Worker 
Duty Station: Amman with some travel to the field offices 
Report to: Field Coordinator 
Status: Collaborator/Fulltime

THE ORGANIZATION: 
INTERSOS is an independent Italian non-profit humanitarian organization committed to assist the victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Its activities are based on the principles of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equality of rights and opportunities, and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying special attention to the most vulnerable and unprotected people. 
INTERSOS has been present in Jordan since 2007, with its main office in Amman and programs of activities all over the country in support of Iraqi refugees. Since 2012 Intersos is partnering with several donors, among which UNICEF, in assisting refugees from Syria and most vulnerable among Jordanian population. 
OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION: 
The “Social Worker” is expected to support INTERSOS Mission in Jordan on a broad range of tasks, including but not limited to assessing, selecting, directly assisting and following-up vulnerable refugees, asylum-seekers and host community members in order to meet their most urgent needs, guarantee access to available services and attain the highest level of independence and sustainability possible. 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Under the direct supervision of the Field Coordinators, the Social Worker will be responsible to ensure the successful implementation of the project activities. Specifically: 
 Conduct assessments, house to house visits and individuals interview of Jordanian and Syrian Households (HHs); 
 Follow INTERSOS’s vulnerability assessment system to identify extremely vulnerable Syrian and Jordanian households as potential beneficiaries of rental, NFI, cash, and protection assistance and guarantee that the selection process adheres to the criteria set in the proposal; 
 Collect accurate feedback information from beneficiaries to feed the internal database improve future programming and improve accountability of the overall mission; 
 Coordinate in a team effort to conduct field visits and outreach to the Syrian refugee community
and Jordanian host communities in order to identify households with special needs; 
 Ensure that detailed case files are prepared, organized and filed in hard and soft copies for all interviews conducted, and report/highlight specific needs of the beneficiary that need immediate action; 
 If requested record basic data and prepare lists of recommended cases for different types of assistance 
 Assist the Field Coordinators in the preparation of regular progress narrative reports; 
 Establish good and regular communication and relationship with project beneficiaries, INTERSOS partners and various service providers; 
 Complete distribution of cash and NFIs assistance and follow up those directly supported by INTERSOS through the action, including Emergency NFIs distribution during winter harsh weather conditions – Emergency Response; 
Under the guidance of the Protection Officer , the Social Worker will be responsible to: 
 Detect the presence of emerging new needs/protection risks among the new arrivals through house-to-house visits and individual interviews; 
 Identify extremely vulnerable Syrian and Jordanian households in need of referrals both internally and to external service providers; 
 Facilitate the link and the referral of the beneficiaries to various organizations for appropriate service provision and follow up of extremely vulnerable cases identified during the action as per SOPs endorsed at national level, and using the referral forms defined at Working Group level; 
 Support the Project Officer and the Field Coordinator in liaising with referral coordination Working Group (WG) and with all the service providers mapped by the WG itself at Governorate level; 
 Perform any other tasks requested by the Supervisor in the framework of the activities foreseen by INTERSOS program in Jordan.
Other responsibilities: 
 Uphold the INTERSOS Code of Conduct and policies; 
 Ensure the respect of the core humanitarian principles: neutrality, impartiality, independence and humanity and the respect of the “do no harm” principle of humanitarian action. 
 strictly follow the internal procedures and guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS 
 Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in social studies, humanitarian actions or any related field; 
 ideally at least 3 years of professional experience as social worker and/or case workers preferably in the NGO and humanitarian sector; 
 Extensive field experience and an in–depth knowledge of refugee’s assistance issues;  
 Proven experience in dealing with community members, local leaders and other stakeholders; 
 Strong organizational skills and ability to manage efficiently multiple priorities, deadlines and tasks with attention to details; 
 Experience in conducting research, assessments and interviews is a strong asset; 
 Ability to communicate effectively with variety of people, and express oneself in a clear and concise way; 
 Strong communication and reporting skills; 
 Excellent Arabic spoken and written language skills. Ability to communicate and write in English is an asset; 
 Good command of MS Office packet, including good typing skills; 
 Excellent team working skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment and under pressure; 
 Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills; 
 Ability to work under high pressure;
