Policy and Public Affairs Intern - Paid

Mercy Corps has worked in Jordan since 2002 to implement a variety of programs. MC always pursues the highest standards of program quality and integrity, and remains dedicated to the expansion of its programming wherever there are communities or individuals in need.
The Senior Policy and Government Affairs Advisor is responsible for maintaining MC relations with all national level government authorities to foster positive relations between MC and the authorities in the Kingdom of Jordan. She works closely with MC Jordan teams to identify, devise and pursue strategies to advance MC policy objectives. Moreover, key part of her role is to ensure all active MC Jordan projects are in technical compliance with Government of Jordan requirements. This comprises primarily regular coordination with program teams so that new projects achieve full registration in a timely fashion, and so that existing projects submit activity reports to sponsoring ministries on-time and as required by each.
Purpose of the Training:
This training will provide an intern with the opportunity to develop research and writing skills to a variety of policies. The intern will be exposed to a wide array of public policy matters. During the internship, intern will be able to develop his/her research, analytical and report writing skills, with the opportunity to carry out the following tasks:
- Carry out research by using databases, internet and public domain tools
- Document and e-mail review and analysis
- Create fact sheets and PowerPoint presentations
- Track news articles and legislative and regulatory actions
- Participating in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate regularly with colleagues to inform of government approvals, requirements and deadlines.
- Maintain accurate research records
- Maintain and update projects’ government affairs files
- Create trackers to help MC PDs and PM to stay informed of due dates of major deliverables and status of government approvals

- Develop research skills

- Report writing using different platforms; online and paper reporting
- Better understanding of Jordan’s strategic priorities, policies, and relevant laws and regulations.
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing Bachelor's degree in International Relations/Affairs, Regional Studies, Political Science, Law or other related areas of study.
- Excellent time management and organization skills
- Strong writing and analytical skills and the ability to communicate clearly
- Detail-oriented and demonstrated ability to stay on task and meet deadlines.
- Computer proficiency and ability to maximize applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel

6 months: from 2 May until 30 October 2019
