Community Outreach Senior Officer


  • Position Summary

The Launching Economic Achievement Program (LEAP) is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) of Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and supports women’s empowerment for sustainable economic growth in Jordan through programming that increases productivity and job opportunities generated by women entrepreneurs and reduces gender-specific barriers to women’s entrepreneurship and women entering into and remaining in the workforce. The project is being implemented by a Canadian-Jordanian Consortium led by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), together with INJAZ and Ryerson University. Other Canadian and Jordanian organizations will also be involved in project implementation. LEAP is a three-year project that will conclude programming in October 2020. It is important to note that the team supporting this initiative is to be rooted in the social entrepreneurial values of win/win relationship building and partnership, collaboration, inclusiveness, accessibility, empathy, and empowerment of others.

Implementation of project activities will be locally managed through LEAP Project Manager within the project management Office (PMO) housed within INJAZ premises. The

Community Outreach Officer will work closely with other members of the LEAP project team based in Canada and Jordan to monitor the project implementation and ensure successful delivery of activities on the ground.

The community outreach Officer will officially report to the LEAP Project Manager and receive technical and operational guidance From Community Outreach Manager, however s/he will also receive technical and operational direction from CBIE and Ryerson in Canada. 

  • Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Handling the mentorship process for LEAP teams according to project requirements and KPIs (starting from mentors’ attraction and ending by mentors’ retention).
  2. Provides substantive input into the development of LEAP narrative
  3. Create a series of pitching demo days for startups in order to enhance their pitching skills.
  4. Networks with organizations relevant to the start-up eco-system and women’s entrepreneurship
  5. Proactively identifies, cultivates, and builds ongoing relationships and potential strategic partnerships, collaboration, outreach and support with individuals, organizations, academic institutions, professional associations, and other external bodies relevant to the Incubator, as well as the broader community.
  6. Coordinates internal and external events of varying sizes in order to promote women’s entrepreneurship
  7. Provide start-ups with networking opportunities while strengthening culture and community within the incubator and with the external ecosystem.
  8. Collaborates with the Business development Supervisor to support the recruitment of WLTs startups and mentors.
  9. Develops strategies with Incubator Manager for engaging mentors and advisors that enable them to be part of the incubator community.
  10. Actively participates in the annual planning of activities and initiatives of the Incubator.
  11. Develops and implements recruitment strategies to attract the targeted, high potential women-led startups to the Incubator
  12. Actively participates in the annual strategizing and planning of activities and initiatives of the Incubator, together with LEAP Project Manager, Business Development Supervisor, mySTARTUP Manager, and LEAP project partners
  13.  Regularly meeting LEAP startups to identify their needs, advises start-ups on resources and support available, and develops partnerships to cover their needs
  14. Providing coordination in forecasting and budget allocation for LEAP project activities and procurement of goods and service
  15. Organizing and conducting events of varying sizes to promote women’s entrepreneurship
  16. Develops monitoring systems for tracking LEAP project impact on participants
  • EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATION 

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business, communications, marketing or entrepreneurship related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • EXPERIENCE
  1. Four  (4)  years’  relevant  work  experience in business development, stakeholder management, project management, marketing and communications
  2. Experience in small, medium and large event coordination; including experience coordinating all aspects of an event (pre-event planning, on-site event management, post-event reporting and budget management)
  • SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
  1. Demonstrated passion and drive for the regional/sectoral context of the project – i.e. women’s entrepreneurship in Jordan, innovation eco-system
  2. Promotes and supports internal and external entrepreneurial practices, based on generativity, interdependence, whole humanness, agency and equality
  3. Demonstrated leadership, consultation, coordination and people management skills, including working with volunteers and consultants
  4. Well-developed interpersonal skills, self-confidence and poise to deal effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, personalities and needs
  5. Strong networking and business relationship building skills and connections with the entrepreneurial ecosystem
  6. Experience with facilitation and training
  7. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic is required
  8. Experience in developing project communication tools and promotional materials
  9. Excellent communication, coordination, organizational and analytical skills 
  10. Ability  to  work  independently  and  as  a  team  member and be comfortable  with  workload  pressure  and deadlines
  11. Willingness to travel inside Jordan and overseas, primarily to Canada, when required
