Regional Data Analyst
Role description
The Regional Protection Data Analyst will support the already established Regional Protection Data Office to enhance its capacities in providing three main services.
- Data services: ad-hoc development of data analytics products and prototypes, providing support and advice on data collection, visualization and processing (including external data).
- Evidence support: development of consistent methodology to support regional issues and the priorities in the delegations.
- Data literacy: raise awareness on the criticality of consistent data collection, as well as on the potential opportunities of using data to enhance ICRC’s operations.
Responsibilities
- Ensures rigorous methodological approach both qualitative and quantitative to data collection, analysis, visualization and reporting that will provide an in-depth understanding about the humanitarian situation related to Protection situation and ICRC’s activities in the Region.
- Contributes to the reflection, development and implementation analysis to help optimize and strengthen evidence-based protection action, regional strategy and operational dialogue.
- Supports Protection teams to identify and develop opportunities to use data analytics to transform information into insights that can support operations.
- Builds reports, dashboards and visualizations combining quantitative and qualitative methods and produces visual and reader-friendly analytics.
- Performs ad-hoc researches and data extraction requests and explores new data sources and analytical techniques.
- Supports Data Analysts based in the delegations, contributes to the sharing of ideas and methods across the region (including organization of workshops).
- Supports the Regional Data Managers and Regional Advisors with analysis of regional priorities, providing advice on consistent data collection and identifying points to be standardized.
- Contributes to the mapping of available regional external data resources and builds partnerships with other organizations based in the Region.
- Links up with other teams across the ICRC to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to data analysis.
- Is the focal point on the region to link to external organizations and partners in the topics related to data and information management for protection thematics.
- Contributes response to emergencies in the region.
- Supervises directly one staff; is the technical referal for two to three staff.
Desired profile and skills
- Advanced university degree or equivalent in Statistics, Economics, Social Sciences, Computer Sciences or related.
- 5 years overall professional experience in Data Analytics.
- Previous experience in or strongly motivated by humanitarian work.
- Fluency in SQL and Python/R, or any other relevant scripting languages.
- Experience in data analysis and statistical methods.
- Storytelling ability through visually clear reports and dashboards, both dynamic and static.
- Very good written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent command of English.
- Spanish, French or Arabic an asset.
Our operational & field constraints
- In line with the principle of neutrality, the ICRC dœs not assign personnel to a country of which they are nationals
- Candidates must be in good health and must meet medical health checks requirements before qualifying for field deployment
- Candidates must hold a driving license for manual transmission vehicles and be able to drive such vehicles independently in unfamiliar terrain
- Candidates must be prepared to accept unaccompanied postings (i.e. no spouse, partner, children or dependents) for at least the first 6 months
