Regional Child Protection Technical Advisor

The Opportunity

The Regional CP Technical Advisor Middle East provides technical leadership and support to countries in the Middle East region and to our North Africa Migration Initiative (NAMI), in line with Country Office, Regional and SCI global priorities.  Working in close coordination with the regional advisors, including the Regional MHPSS TA, this position will play a key role to strengthen SCI’s child protection capacity, primarily through hands on technical assistance, strategic and programmatic support, coordination, advocacy, fund-raising, capacity building (training/mentoring/coaching), talent acquisition and development, and surge capacity for implementation and emergencies. The position plays an important role in terms of ensuring quality delivery and contextual adaption of SCI’s global Common Approaches building their evidence-base in line with the regional strategic priorities.  The Regional TA also plays an active role in SCI’s global and regional coordination and networking mechanisms, and actively contributes to advancing progress on key integration priorities, including nexus programming, gender equality, disability inclusion, mental health and psychosocial support and child participation.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the post holder will be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
The position includes regular travel to SC’s programs in the Middle East.


In order to be successful you will bring/have:


  • At least 7 years’ experience of working internationally in child protection in emergency or development settings
  • Relevant academic background in child psychology (clinical or educational) or other related subject (e.g. Masters in Social Work, or Masters in Social Science). (Substantial relevant working experience in an international environment may be accepted in lieu.)
  • Understanding of the Child Protection sector in Middle East
  • Demonstrated successful experience in capacity building, mentoring, facilitation of learning and provision of technical support
  • Experience of context, capacity and policy analysis, and influencing and advocacy at regional/international level in order to hold duty bearers to account to realise children’s rights.
  • Skilled at networking, representation and partnership development in order promote learning, strengthen civil society and mobilise resources. 
  • Experience of promoting quality and impact through at least one cross-cutting area: gender equality and inclusion, adaptive and safer programming, mental health and psychosocial support. 
  • Demonstrated program design, monitoring and evaluation skills
  • Experience of strategy development and planning
  • Fluent in English and high level of English writing skills.
