GIS and Data Visualization Officer
Project: USAID Syria Accountability and Research Team (Syria ART)
Duration of Position: 1 year; renewable on a yearly basis thereafter

At this time, Proximity is looking to hire a GIS & Data Visualization Officer for the recently awarded USAID Syria Accountability and Research Team (ART) program. Syria ART is a 5-year contract that will provide the USAID/Middle East Bureau with third-party monitoring, research and analysis for its resilience and stabilization assistance in Syria. ART will independently monitor, verify, and analyze the results of the assistance and also provide independent research and analysis services to inform USAID's strategy, project, and activity design and implementation.
The GIS & Data Visualization Officer will work across all ART programs and departments to support the visual arranging, editing, and composition of ART maps, infographics, and reporting products before being submitted to USAID. This includes, but is not limited to, designing and developing GIS maps, infographics, templates, setting font and color palettes, formatting final reports and other deliverables before submission, and any external communications services that may be required by USAID.
Responsibilities
· Work with the technical deputy chief of party (DCOP) and component leads to design and develop GIS maps, data visualization products, and other reporting tools, often on tight timelines
· Create data visualization strategy for ART
· Coordinate with ART staff to collect on-the-ground data to create highly visual and attractive infographics
· Train project team members in the appropriate use of visual communications material, supporting team members in template creation and usage
· Edit, typeset, and format formal ART products and tools prior to delivery to USAID, ensuring correct formatting and engaging visualization
· Any other requirements that may be needed for effective data visualization and external communication
Qualifications
· Training or relevant degree in graphic design, communications strategy, or other related field
· Previous experience working with corporate or project teams to design data visualization strategies
· Ability to create detailed and attractive project maps using ArcGIS or another similar program
· Ability to synthesize data to create informative, attractive, and easy to digest infographics
· Ability to train and support non-technical team members in data visualization techniques
· Strong track record working and delivering under tight deadlines
· Fluency in both Arabic and English language is required
· Experience working on Syria programming is a plus, but not required
