Procurement Intern/ Paid


LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:  3 Months
Mercy Corps Responsibilities
For the duration of this internship assignment the intern will receive:
  • Access to Mercy Corps online tools
  • All other tools, materials and communication requirements for this internship to be undertaken
  • The transportation for field visits.
  • All phone calls related to work will be covered (a SIM card and mobile phone)
Intern Responsibilities
Intern will remain responsible for all costs associated with:
  • Medical costs in addition to standard insurance coverage (vaccinations, if applicable)
  • All other costs associated with this internship
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Since 2003, Mercy Corps has been working to support Jordanians as well as Syrian refugees who have fled to the country. Last year we supported more than 1 million people. Our programs strive to meet basic needs, build strong and engaged communities, increase economic opportunities, and promote growth that also protects scarce natural resources.
At Mercy Corps, we provide Jordanian host communities and Syrian refugees with a variety of opportunities and services that meet both their urgent and long-term needs. Here are some of our results to date:
In 2017, more than 1 million people benefited from our work.
We have provided nearly 3,200 refugee and vulnerable Jordanian households with cash to help them obtain missing documentation, prepare for the winter or meet other urgent needs.
Every month, 8,000 young people use the services at our safe spaces in Zaatari refugee camp.
More than 4,500 children with disabilities have access been enrolled in our inclusive education program receiving rehabilitation services, accommodative equipment and/or academic support.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 
  • The intern will have a full understanding of the procurement process (Micro and Small) in NGOs.
  • He/She will be able to begin and end the procurement process.
  • He/She will be able to do negotiations with the suppliers.
  • The intern will enhance their business/procurement ethics while practicing.
DELIVERABLES:
The procurement intern is required to help with petty jobs with in procurement department and work directly with the procurement officer. At the same time, He/She will be provided learning opportunity through the on job training and allowing Him/her basic jobs with less or no accountability. He/She will provide support with following specific procurement jobs:
  • Learn filing of procurement documents and file micro purchase documents
  • Print relevant emails and file along with original PRs.
  • File cancelled PRs to keep the PR sequence intact.
  • When assigned by supervisor, process micro purchases (only in the 2nd and 3rd month of training)
  • Scan and file completed PRs in the archive folder (own PRs only)
  • Conduct market-surveys and field visits to ensure the quality upon delivery.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA in Logistics/procurement or Engineer, or programmer or any related scientific field.
  • Fresh graduates, or maximum 6 months’ of work experience  
  • Preferable if there is a knowledge of procurement process (basics)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft word and excel basics)
  • Detail-oriented and demonstrated ability to stay on task and meet deadlines.
