Medical Technologist
Responsibilities and Duties
- Performs and reviews quality controls on testing and decides if results are within acceptable ranges; researches problems and works to resolves them.
- Maintains inventory for the laboratory and orders supplies and materials in coordination with the direct supervisor.
- Assists the supervisor in writing policies and procedures for the laboratory tests.
- Performs all routine laboratory procedures.
- Performs quality assurance as per department and sectional established guidelines.
- Operates, calibrates and conducts performance checks on clinical laboratory equipment.
- Follows safety policies, universal precautions and hazardous material management and waste policies.
- Understands/ implements KHCC established policies related to safety and other related safety policies and evacuation codes etc.
- Maintains the highest level of integrity and professionalism.
- Stays abreast of advances in technology through self-development, training, and research.
- Maintains patients’ confidentiality and act in an ethical and professional manner in accordance with the codes of behavior prescribed by the profession and in accordance with the policies of KHCC
- Learns, understands and ensures implementation of all existing/ new policies related to Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) and College of American Pathologists (CAP).
- Participates in continuing medical education (CME) as defined by the department and assists junior staff in performing their duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
Education & Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or any related area of specialty with at least 2 years of experience.
- The experience must be in flow cytometry.
- Have Ministry of Health license as a Medical Lab Technologist.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety manuals, universal precautions, Chemical Hygiene/ Exposure control plans and their applications.
- Excellent command of the English language with ability to write SOPs.
- Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook).
