Multi-skilled Technical Operator
Job Introduction
International News is at the heart of the BBC. BBC News Group employs approximately 1,750 staff in 74 news bureaux around the world. It provides multimedia services to a global weekly audience of over 440 million, in English and 42 other languages around the clock, every day of the year. The bureaux react to breaking news, provide news updates and analysis and produce live programme and online output. In a highly competitive market, delivering to both UK Licence Fee payers and commercial partners, BBC News services must be reliable and consistent and continue to meet the high standards expected by our audiences. Our International Bureaux (IB) team supports all News Group bureaux.
Role Responsibility
We are recruiting a Multi-skilled Technical Operator who will be responsible for the technical operation of studio, location and associated equipment in order to realise production requirements for transmissions and recordings effectively and efficiently, exploiting all of the technical resources available. You'll provide a comprehensive point of reference for journalistic and other operational staff, including on the day staffing requirements and dealing with technical and operational queries.
You will be a proven multi-skilled operator with a primary focus on Radio Operations. However you will need to be fully competent in at least one or more of the other roles for a multi-media environment in Studio/Gallery Operations, undertaking tasks across all technical areas after suitable training. The skills are Sound Mixer, Vision Mixer, Lighting Director, Technical Co-ordinator (lighting, communications and camera control), Technical Coordination, Camera Operator, Floor Manager, Picture editing and Graphics skills.
The Ideal Candidate
You will need demonstrable experience working in a live broadcast environment, particularly radio, along with excellent organisational and time management skills. You'll need to demonstrate expertise in at least one technical role as well as excellent IT support skills and the ability to acquire technical skills and operate technical equipment. You'll need the ability to work fast, accurately and under pressure to tight deadlines with the ability to multi-task before and during transmissions. You'll need to be fluent in Arabic with a good knowledge of English including complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.
