AECSA - GENERAL MANAGER
The American Embassy Community Services Association (AECSA) provides goods
and services to American Embassy employees in order to enhance the quality of their
lives. AECSA is looking for a new General Manager (GM) to oversee all AECSA
operations.
The GM is responsible for all aspects of AECSA, including its activities and the
relationships between AECSA and its Board of Directors, members, guests, employees,
U.S. Embassy management, and the U.S. Embassy community.
The GM supervises a staff of over 30 employees that support AECSA operations and
offerings which include an American goods store (Co-op), cafeteria serving 500 meals
daily, gift shop, swimming pool, a pool snack bar, catering services, summer camp,
barber shop, dry cleaner, and other miscellaneous services.
The GM coordinates and administers AECSA’s policies as defined by its Board of
Directors, directs the work of employees, implements and monitors the budget, monitors
the quality of AECSA’s products and services, oversees the care and maintenance of all
AECSA assets and facilities, and ensures maximum member and guest satisfaction.
The characteristics of a successful GM include honesty, straightforwardness, integrity,
accountability, leadership, and dedication. The GM must demonstrate interpersonal
relations skills, be a good communicator and motivator, have experience running a
profitable business, have a passion for making the U.S. Embassy a fun and comfortable
place to be, and be able to communicate AECSA’s vision.

community, Jordanian nationals, and third-country nationals legally residing in Jordan

All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security
certifications.
Qualifications and Competencies:
a. Technical Competencies:
A four-year Bachelor’s degree.
At least two years of professional experience in business management, hotel
management, catering management, food and beverage management, or a closelyrelated field.
At least two years of supervisory experience.
Excellent command of written and spoken English (4/4 Level). This will be
tested.
Accounting skills and experience working with budgets.
Experience in and aptitude for sales and marketing.
Strong computer skills in word processing, and other relevant office applications
(i.e. MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access).

Excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership skills.
Excellent communication and cross-cultural communication skills, and ability to
interact effectively with a diverse group of people at all levels.
Excellent understanding of customer service.
c. Additional Factors (Though not required, these factors will make a candidate
more or less competitive.)
Work experience in Jordan and knowledge of Arabic.
Knowledge and understanding of diplomatic and duty-free privileges.
A bachelor’s degree focused on the hospitality industry, or a closely-related field.
Experience running restaurant operations.
Experience running complex events.
An understanding of American culture brought about by years spent in the United
States or U.S. Embassy communities in other countries.
Terms of Employment:
An annualized salary of $30,000 to $45,000 USD, depending on qualifications.
A generous benefits package including medical insurance, time off, and discounts on
AECSA goods and services.
At least 40 hours of work per week with a variable schedule to include some nights
and weekends.
