Adolescents & Gender Specialist - Syria Adolescent Programme


The Role
This position holder will ensure that best practice approaches and tools in adolescent and gender programming are full integrated into a multi-year and multi-sectoral Syria Adolescent Programme (SAP), aimed at building resilience and empowering adolescents affected by the Syria crisis to act as agents of change. As a member of the Programme Development & Quality (PDQ) Team, and with a dotted technical line to the Regional Sr. Advisor Adolescents & Youth Advisor, the candidate will be responsible for providing technical guidance on adolescents’ best practices and on gender equality. The post holder will provide management support, work closely with the Programme Director and will support the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of activities under the project, ensuring that all relevant thematic in terventions are appropriately aimed and engaging targeted adolescent girls and boys. This includes support on developing and implementing technical capacity strengthening plans for SCI and partners staff. The post holder will support Country Offices in conducting ongoing assessments that incorporate gender analysis; supporting the design of age and gender responsive strategies that effectively address the needs of girls, boys, women and men. The post holder will work in close collaboration with SAP Programme Managers and Technical Advisors to develop and agree on actions to address priority gaps on adolescent best practices and gender equality across the programme and within partner organisations. The post holder will work closely with other technical specialists across all thematic areas in the Syria and Lebanon teams in the development and implementation of integrated quality programming across the targeted areas of intervention 
Qualification and Experience
Essential
* MSc/MA/MEng in Gender Studies, Human rights Law, International Relations, Development Studies or similar
* At least 5 years of work experience in working with adolescents in both humanitarian and development contexts or fragile states
* Demonstrated experience in integrating gender in programming with adolescents
* Strong facilitation and training skills
* Demonstrated experience in managing projects, delivering high quality results, evidencing impact and innovative MEAL approaches
* Strong MEAL experience related to adolescent programming across both development and emergency programs, including strong practical experience in project/program monitoring and evaluation
* Demonstrated ability to thrive in a matrix management environment. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
* Solid program development skills and working with international, cross-functional teams on developing proposals and program design with a proven history of delivering results
* Culturally sensitive, with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
* Fluency in English, both verbal and written Willingness to travel throughout the region (up to 50% of time)
* Commitment to Save the Children values, aims and principles 
Highly Desirable:
* Arabic (spoken & written) skills are strongly desirable 
Contract length: 31st December, 2020.
