Dar Al-Handasah Consultants is recruiting a GIS Developer to join its offices in Amman.
General Description:
The GIS Application Developer must be proficient in web, mobile, and desktop‐based application development. The candidate will scope, design, develop, deploy, and support custom and configurable out‐of‐the‐box GIS and Internet web mapping applications. The candidate will be responsible for system and web mapping support and assisting in implementing and deploying Enterprise GIS systems, including distributed n‐tier configurations. The candidate will provide expertise for the successful design and deployment of custom and configurable web/GIS applications, spatial analysis tools, and GIS solutions in support of client initiatives and software product development and support. The candidate will also assist in developing system documentation and training materials for websites, tools, and applications with end‐user training, and support assistance.
The successful candidate shall have experience in all levels of GIS application development. Hands‐on experience incorporating mapping and database functionality into web‐based solutions using ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal for ArcGIS) or other Internet mapping solutions is a definite advantage.
Qualifications:
- Masters or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, or any related field
- Experience: 2-5 years post-graduation

Responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain custom applications, tools, and services in an ESRI environment using SQL Server, Python, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, REST, JSON, SQL, and relevant ESRI technologies (ArcGIS Enterprise, SDE, ESRI APIs)
- Design, develop, and support server‐based geoprocessing scripts, tools, and processes for automated data updates with Python and SQL statements
- Utilize Agile and Scrum methodologies to self‐organize, track progress, and update the status of projects
- Troubleshoot various GIS issues for users to correct bugs with tools, server management issues, issues with processes, and questions about new workflows
- Develop and document GIS processes and procedures
- Assist other teams with various ad‐hoc GIS requests

Preferred experience includes:
- Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS products
- Strong IT skills
- Experience with ArcGIS for Desktop, ArcGIS Online, ESRI Web App Builder, JavaScript API
- Understanding of ESRI Server and Portal, management of licenses, management of user accounts
- Familiarity with relational databases
- Knowledge of development, test, and production database environments
- Troubleshooting GIS issues
- Development of server‐side components, including but not limited to SOAP & REST Web Service endpoints implemented via IIS & .NET technologies, is highly desirable
- ASP.NET, ASP.NET Web API, Windows Communication Foundation, SOAP & RESTful Web Services (both developing & consuming), Microsoft IIS Configuration
- Conceptual understanding and ideally experience with multi‐tiered system architecturesincluding server roles, network communications, and network security measures (firewalls, proxy, VPN, etc.)
- Server-side knowledge in the development and management of ArcGIS Enterprise Server
